Janet LaRock Obituary

Janet (Jan) L. LaRock, age 85, of Chemung, New York, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday
April 9 th , 2024, with her loving husband by her side.

Jan was born in Granby Center, New York, the daughter of John and Frieda Draper on August 6, 1938. She
graduated high school and went on to work as a Floral Designer creating a variety of beautiful
arrangements.

On October 18, 1958, in the St. Mary’s Church in Fulton, NY, Jan married the love of her life Anthony
LaRock. Jan and Tony were blessed to have been together for more than 65 years. They moved to
Chemung, New York in 1973 where they raised their family and served their community. As a faithful
member of the Chemung United Methodist Parish, she served as the Superintendent of Sunday School
for several years. She loved spending time with all her family. Jan, aka Mimi, is most remembered by her
grandchildren as always having a big bin of cookies on top of the fridge. She always made them from
scratch and loved having the kids come over and enjoy them with a big glass of milk while they visited.

Holiday dinners were Jan’s time to shine as she cooked and enjoyed family time around a delicious meal
she prepared. Jan had an amazing heart and had always prepared enough to send out multiple plates to
those in the community less fortunate. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. Jan loved
spending time at “camp” at Lake Bonin. She also loved ELVIS! From a shrine on the wall to singing along
to his most beloved hits. Jan was also a great crafter, and you would often find her in her craft room
painting, sewing, or creating something while watching Hallmark movies! While she worked at Tracy’s
Florist in Waverly, NY, she made many friends and honed her talent and was so creative, that she could
throw together an arrangement at a moment’s notice. She enjoyed her many great friends and often
spent time with them visiting or going to dinner together.

Janet is survived by her loving husband Anthony, sons Brian (Jennifer) LaRock, Bruce LaRock, Barry (Lisa)
LaRock and daughter-in-law, Deb LaRock all of Chemung NY. Her beloved grandchildren Michael,
Matthew (Karli), Braden, Lindsay, Brianna LaRock, Brittany Austin and Amanda Patelunas. Several nieces,
nephews, great nephews and great nieces.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brother John Draper and her sisters,
Esther Scott and Shirley Lamson.
